It's still a first draft, but I am told it is really good, anyway. You can go read it and prove them wrong and tell them it's horrible if you want. I dare you. Or just tell me, since I need to edit the accursed behemoth that is now sprawling past 700 pages.
What is it?
It's a fantasy story that's written more as a character drama in a fantasy setting. It's a bit experimental, and was written unplotted. There is no outline. I had a whole set of rules on it that I made for myself, including a "1 chapter a week" deadline. You can check those out at www.iorneste.com/how-this-work… if you're curious.
I liken it to speedpainting. I get to clean it up later. :)
Want a summary?
It's a dragon story about a dragon who spends the entire novel bound into human form, as part of the rite of passage among his people, the great wyrms, who call themselves the Drac. The rite of passage is called The First Exile.
I encourage you to read it, for free. It's a labor of love where I'm just writing a chapter each week, giving it away, and sharing the art I commissioned in the process to go along with the chapter. Come for the art, stay for the writing!

Don't worry, it's a mutual thing and despite the children both of us are very happy and relieved to stop trying to make a relationship work that is completely loveless.

Missing My Story

In the same way that you can never experience your first time watching a movie or reading a book more than once, you can never write a story more than once. Yes, of course, there are several rounds of revisions, but that first magical time when the story started coming together, when chapter followed chapter and I found out along with everyone else what was going to happen...
Well, there's no other word for it. It's magic.
So now I look at Iorneste, sitting there, waiting to be edited, like a well-loved friend who lives far away. We are no longer as close as we once were, because the story is there, and I am here, and we are no longer daily

It's been awesome to see your work, and I've been waiting to see what's going to come out of the new pages.
I've been pretty busy lately, lots of major life changes coming (I'm getting divorced) so I haven't been engaged in DA quite as much, and haven't been commissioning anyone since that last cover for Mindbender. But I still haven't forgotten my peeps.
I'll catch up with your work shortly and give you my review of the story as a whole, but I just love seeing you doing what you love and exploring ideas and just having fun with it. Keep going. You are one of my inspirations.
